Hoi An: Village Life by Bicycle
Cycle to hamlets no map shows, watch mat-weaving and boat-building, make noodles by hand at a farmhouse table, then float back to Old Town by private boat.
This cycling route goes well beyond what a standard day tour covers. Into hamlets, along canal paths not yet mapped. An occasional buffalo will bask in the sun in your pat and ignores you as you try to find a way around him. Watch their handlers work the flooded rice paddies at a pace that makes your own life feel absurdly fast. Grandmothers weave sleeping mats from the river reeds along your cycling paths, using the same equipment inherited from her mother. Then try your hands at making noodles with one of the noodle makers that supply Hoi An's tables. The deceptively simple method that hasn't changed for aons. Then it's lunch with the very noodles you've made. Supplemented with properly made noodles. Fresh and delicious. Afterwards your bicycle loads onto a private river boat for the ride home, fields sliding past as Old Town comes into view.
