Why we love it

The tunnel network that let an entire resistance live, cook and fight underground — walked, and for a stretch crawled, with a guide who explains what daily life down there actually meant.

Củ Chi Tunnels

The Củ Chi tunnel network by private car — narrow crawl-through tunnels, hidden trapdoors, and a guide who explains what living beneath the war actually involved.

Củ Chi's tunnels were dug and expanded over decades, eventually linking villages, supply routes and fighting positions into a network that let people live, eat, plan and fight almost entirely below ground. What's preserved today has been widened slightly for visitors, but the scale and the claustrophobia are real enough — a short crawl through an original-width section makes the point better than any plaque could.

Above ground, the guide walks through what the tunnels supported: hidden trapdoors built to disappear into the forest floor, ventilation shafts disguised as termite mounds, underground kitchens rigged to vent smoke far from where it was actually cooking. It reads less like a war memorial in the usual sense and more like an engineering story — what people built, under enormous constraint, to keep functioning.

With the private car and guide fee included, the day moves at its own pace rather than a fixed tour-bus schedule, lunch worked in once the site visit is done.
