Hà Nội
Hà Nội Old Quarter Walking Tour & Lunch
Đồng Xuân Market, Ô Quan Chưởng Gate, Bạch Mã Temple, Kim Ngân Temple, St. Joseph's Cathedral and the Temple of Literature on foot, finishing with a private lunch in a traditional tube house.
This route starts at Đồng Xuân Market, the Old Quarter's biggest and oldest, and immediately steps back in time at Ô Quan Chưởng — the only one of Hà Nội's original city gates still standing. From there it's a short walk to Bạch Mã Temple, generally considered the oldest in the Old Quarter, dedicated to the guardian spirit the district was originally built around. Kim Ngân Temple is the quiet stop most visitors miss entirely — tucked behind a working guild-house facade, it tells the Old Quarter's real history as a district of trade guilds, each street once specialising in a single craft. St. Joseph's Cathedral supplies the contrast: Neo-Gothic, French-built, twin spires visible from streets away. The walk ends at the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university, founded to educate mandarins under a Confucian curriculum that shaped the country's civil service for centuries. Lunch closes the day.
