Hoi An: Street Food Tour on Foot

A walking food tour through Hội An's hidden alleys — bánh mì, white rose, cao lầu, and the people who make them.

Hội An has one of the most distinctive food cultures in Vietnam — shaped by centuries of Chinese merchants, Japanese traders, French colonists, and, above all, a local culinary tradition that refused to be diluted by any of them. This walking tour goes looking for that tradition in the places it still lives.

Your guide leads you off the main lanes into the alleyways, the back-street stalls, and the private kitchens that serve their neighbourhood rather than tourists. You eat cao lầu — the noodle dish made with water from a single ancient well that gives it its mineral depth. You eat white rose dumplings, a preparation so delicate only a handful of families in the world still make them. You eat bánh mì from the stall the locals actually queue at.

Each stop comes with the dish's real history — the family that's made it for generations, the well, the recipe nobody's bothered to write down. You leave full, and able to explain why Hội An's food tastes the way it does.
