Why we love it
A civilisation older than Angkor, a guide who makes the carved stones speak, and a valley so quiet you can hear the monsoon history in it — Mỹ Sơn on foot with the right guide is one of Southeast Asia's great heritage encounters.

Hội An
Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary
Cham temple ruins older than Angkor Wat, reached through rice-field countryside, explained by a guide who specialises in Cham civilisation rather than a general script.
Long before Angkor Wat was built, long before Bagan's plains filled with temples, the Cham people were already raising red-brick towers in the river valley west of Hội An. Mỹ Sơn Sanctuary has been a place of worship since the 4th century — a span of time so vast that most of its history is simply silence. The drive out through the countryside is its own pleasure — rice fields, water buffalo, villages where the 21st century hasn't fully landed. Then the valley opens and the towers appear, rising out of long grass, threaded with roots, stained dark by centuries of monsoon rain. Your guide specialises in Cham civilisation and makes the stones speak — the symbolism cut into every surface, the rise and fall of a kingdom that lasted a thousand years and left almost no written record. Quieter and more atmospheric than the famous sites elsewhere in Southeast Asia. A civilisation that built in silence, and left beauty.
